NOTICE OF SCHOOL BUDGET VOTE & ELECTION/Aviso del Voto Presupuestario Escolar y Elección

2020-2021 Budget Information

School Budget Vote/Election and South Country Library Election is June 9, 2020
All voting will be by Absentee Ballot only as per Executive Order 202.26.  Absentee Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters of the South Country Central School District on May 28, 2020.  Ballots may be returned by mail or deposited in a secure drop box provided by the District in front of District Office located at 189 N. Dunton Avenue, East Patchogue, NY, each weekday beginning June 1, 2020 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm and on June 9, 2020 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The Ballot will contain the Budget Proposition and Trustee Election for South Country Central School District along with the Trustee Election for South Country Library. Please note the instructions on the Absentee Ballot. Ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020. Voter Eligibility & Registration Information

In order to vote on the budget, residents must be registered.  Voter eligibility requires that you are:

1.    A Citizen of the United States
2.    Eighteen [18] years of age or older on the day of the election
3.    You have lived in the school district for at least 30 days prior to this election.
4.    A registered voter with the school district or with the Suffolk County Board of Elections

Qualified voters can also use the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Electronic Voter Registration Application to register to vote or to update the information they have on file with the New York State Board of Elections. Information regarding that can be located at The District does not have control over the Department of Motor Vehicles Registration Application process or its registration timelines.  Therefore, qualified voters who intend to register through the Department of Motor Vehicles should do so as soon as possible.


Absentee Ballots

The Governor’s Executive Order 202.26 requires that absentee ballots be “provided to all qualified voters.” Therefore, the District will send absentee ballots (with a postage paid return envelope) to those residents whose names can be ascertained from the registration rolls utilized for the 2019 budget vote and election, as well as those residents whose names have been added to the rolls since that time.

Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020.

Board Candidates

District residents who are interested in running for a Board of Education position for the 2020-2021 school year should contact Christine Flynn, District Clerk, at 631-730-1542 or to request nominating petitions.

Nominating petitions must be submitted to the District Clerk no later than Monday, May 11, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in order to appear on the ballot for the June 9, 2020 election. In light of the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, petitions will be accepted by mail as well as by email at or in a lock box at Central Office.

As per Executive Order 202.26, there is no minimum number of signatures required for the June 9, 2020 School Board Election.


Referenda or Propositions

Pursuant to a rule adopted by the Board of Education in accordance with §2035 of the Education Law, any referenda or propositions to amend the budget, or otherwise to be submitted for voting at said election, must be filed with the District Clerk at her office in the Administration Building, 189 North Dunton Avenue, East Patchogue, New York, at least sixty (60) days before the date of the Annual Meeting and Election, April 10, 2020.
