School Counselors
Mission Statement: The goal of the South Country Central School District School Counseling department is to assist students, parents, faculty and the community in creating a supportive and nurturing environment that allows every student to achieve their personal best. It is our priority to carry out a comprehensive program that is resourceful in developing effective practices and procedures while efficiently promoting academic achievement and college and career readiness.
The Role of the School Counselors - School Counselors are part of the Student Support Team and work with students individually, in group and classroom setting to promote positive academic, social emotional and college and career outcomes. Counselors help with a wide variety of student concerns while promoting a culture of accountability and personal growth. Some of the services provided by the Middle School Counselors include induvial and group counseling intervention, academic intervention, social emotional skills and classroom lessons, college and career programming and planning, crisis intervention and referrals to outside agencies. All students meet individually with their counselor at least once a year to discuss social emotional wellbeing, academic achievement, career planning and goal-setting.
