Frank P. Long Intermediate School students recently explored the wonders of electrical circuits using Makey Makeys during their library media studies period. The Makey Makeys were on loan from Model Schools at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. The students used Play-Doh as their keys and discovered how to complete a circuit and make music, merging creativity with hands-on STEM learning.

Having fun with math

Five Frank P. Long Intermediate School students recently participated in the virtual Suffolk County Math Olympiad Tournament. The students, selecting a theme of “Math Nerds” to dress up as, had lots of laughs, showed off their math skills and gained new problem-solving skills along the way.

South Country student earns scholarship for music camp

Frank P. Long fifth grader Reagan Kellerman has earned a scholarship through the Long Island String Festival Association to attend the South Country Education Foundation’s Summer Camp summer music camp. The talented violinist was granted the award for her participation in LISFA and a scholarship application process. She has taken part in the South Country Education Foundation’s Summer Camp for the past two years.

Following a study of poetry, fourth grade Frank P. Long Elementary School students participated in an engaging poetry slam where they shared poems they had penned. The session concluded with a spontaneous karaoke session and dance-off.

Frank P. Long Intermediate School students have qualified to participate in the Suffolk County Math Olympiad Tournament on May 15. The students, who have been focused on learning and applying numerous problem-solving strategies, will compete in both individual and team contests.
